SEO INSIGHTS | COOL HEADS SALON FOR MEN
Cool Heads Salon for Men Briefing
Cool Heads Salon for Men, is an upscale, full service barbershop/salon located in the Dallas Fort-Worth Area! Cool Heads differentiates itself by exclusivity which is also affordable, offering a club membership, “Gold-Club” [an annual payment for a specific service to receive that service at a discount for the entire year] and additional services such as: color, gray hair removal, waxing and more. Although I can not speak from experience regarding their membership, because it is impossible to keep me in one place longer than two years, Cool Heads website advertises HUGE potential savings and benefits of becoming a member. You can check out the perks for yourself here!Â
Cool Head’s digital presence after analysis could use a lot of focus, the shop itself is so great but I believe their reach could easily be expanded with a few tweaks. Here I will focus on strictly SEO performance, what stood out and my SEO insights for Cool Heads Salon.Â
Initial Impression of Cool Heads Salon's Website + SEO
My initial impression is listed below to structure my thought process and make it easier to digest.
- Google Search
The title looks a little unpleasant and extremely lengthy (realizing after audit), viewing from a desktop computer, the title is cut-off and I would assume that goes for the viewing on mobile as well. The meta description seems to be auto-generated, which usually is not a bad idea because Google will pull the most relevant material from that specific page and insert that text into the meta description, BUT when your website is not text heavy or SEO focused the meta description can be confusing to the reader.
- Google Business Analysis
User Experience… Google and I will focus on this a lot! Linking these to the proper correlated page on the website will boost customer experience and generate more sales! Also, Google’s Business platform allows a business to place a call to action directly in the listing for the consumer to act from Google’s listing of your business! This comes back to simplifying the user’s experience and minimizing potential confusion.
- Website
Getting onto the website the first thing I notice, “Not Secured.” You may as well stick a red flag pop-up in the middle of your page warning users of potential “phishing attacks” to come. Security is not only a huge ranking factor for SEO on Google but can also turn off visitors from your website leading to high bounce rates and lowering visitor “dwell time.”
SEO Factors to Look For:
These factors do not require any fancy SEO tools or subscriptions, most you can notice after a little research and with some understanding of what Google is looking for and prioritizes when it comes to top SEO.Â
- SEO RANKING
- Keywords
- Competitor Ranking
- Broken Links
- Awards/Credibility
- Easily Accessible Contact Page
- Secure & Accessible Website
- UX (User-Experience)Â
Where I Would Start Before Website Audit
Although it is not SEO related, the easiest and probably most effective start I would recommend are the updates mentioned earlier in the Google Listing. With these changes, most of the customers can set up an appointment directly from Google without the potential confusion of the website and UI (user-interface). Also the linking of the services to the correct pages, instead of the home page will ensure the customer is being directed to exactly what they need whether that is a hair care product or service.Â
But those are out of my control – back to SEO!Â
I would start with website speed and keyword research/competitor analysis.
Cool Heads Salon Website Speed Pass?
On desktop, The speed of the site is very noticeable and I assume translates to mobile as well and in today’s world a .3s delay could lead to a potential customer backing out. A website building expert article stated that, 1 in 4 visitors abandon a website that takes more than 4 seconds to load and 46% of users do not return to poorly built websites.Â
Cool Heads Salon for Men SEO Audit Results
- Site Health – 51%Â
- Site Performance – 83%
- Internal Linking – 90%
- Crawlability – 87%
- 222 Errors
- Lacking HTTPS (Security)
- Â No AMP (Accelerated Mobile Pages) LinksÂ
What I Would Do After SEO Audit
222 Errors. There is no way I can address them all here at once! The website’s On-Page SEO is good, so what I would do is focus on UX and make sure the website is compatible with mobile. Chances are someone looking for a place to get their hair cut or beard trimmed are most likely researching from their phone. Per Digital Examiner, “The likelihood of a local search resulting in an in-store visit increases by 35% when performed from a mobile device.”
The first thing is addressing the security; no HTTPS tag (unsecure website) is a HUGE red flag.Â
Next, perform a mobile-friendly test via Google’s Mobile Test. Check Results.
But after a mobile speed test, the domain scored 33%. According to Wordtracker.com,
- 70% of smartphone users switch from one website to another do so, because they do not want to wait for slow pages to load!
This score was due to the complex functions of the site, broken images, and ineffective structuring of Javascript and CSS files. Â
With security, speed (especially focused on mobile) and Google Business Listing addressed most of our noticeable SEO troubles should be solved. From there we can continue to improve the page by making tedious changes to code, images and broken links.Â
